Scott Reilly’s horticultural journey began in his twenties as the head gardener at Tudor Place, a prestigious estate in Georgetown, Washington, DC. Known as the sister estate to Mount Vernon, Tudor Place provided Scott with a profound foundation in landscape design and gardening, offering the opportunity to hone his craft amidst the grandeur of history. Over the years, Reilly’s experience expanded through managing private estates in Virginia, The Hamptons, and Stamford, Connecticut—each location adding a unique layer to his expertise.
Through these diverse roles, Scott developed a rare ability to blend historical charm with contemporary elegance, creating gardens that feel timeless yet fresh. In 1996, he took on a new challenge in Ross, CA, managing a private estate where he delved into the complexities of working within various microclimates, learning to design gardens that embraced both the natural beauty of the land and the desires of the owners. His work in Ross expanded his understanding of garden design, and it also illuminated the importance of personalized, thoughtful landscaping.
In 2006, Scott transitioned from estate management to establishing his own design and maintenance business, O'Reilly Designs. With his vast experience and expertise, Reilly quickly earned a reputation for creating breathtaking gardens that balance aesthetic appeal with ecological awareness. His company now maintains properties of all sizes, and Scott works personally on each project alongside his dedicated team.
